Brick Studio

Occupying a very small plot, the building is a studio for a product designer. Due to the rugged environment of the street, we employed a ‘stealth’ tactic and created an anonymous exterior. With this in mind, the external envelope seamlessly continues the brickwork of the adjacent buildings. On second glance however a subtle difference emerges: the bricks have been laid with intermittent gaps. On entering the front door you are surprised to discover that you are in a 'vertical courtyard' open to the sky. Here the scattered gaps in the brickwork become pinpoints of light.

At night, when viewed from the street, these scattered slots glow like a constellation.
